Revitalizing EAM Operations at SAP Digital Supply Chain Info Day 2019

Revitalizing EAM Operations at SAP Digital Supply Chain Info Day 2019

Today all asset-intensive industries face disruptive challenges from changing business models and higher cost pressures. However, the essentials of asset management have not changed. Companies still need to balance cost, risk, and performance, and now in accordance with evolving regulations.

The wave of change has come from the assets themselves, particularly the massive amounts of data they are producing. This data provides real insight into the performance and health of your heavy assets, but the challenge is having the right technology and process to be able to capitalize on the information.

Conventional maintenance management systems and processes are not enough. Asset Management teams need ways to turn that Big Data into usable information, as well as enable information transparency throughout the entire asset lifecycle and within the ecosystem of operators, equipment manufacturers, and service providers.

SAP, for example, provides the tools to modernize your EAM approach. This allows your organization to develop an environment in which you can manage asset-related information and processes throughout the complete asset lifecycle. Greater knowledge of an asset will positively affect your business from the top down by reducing maintenance cost, increasing asset uptime, and lowering operational risk.

Learn More About Modernizing EAM

Vesta will be presenting more on this topic at the SAP Digital Supply Chain Info Day 2019 at Royal Maxim Palace in Cairo, Egypt on April 16. There, our experts will dive into how EAM has changed and what it takes from a technology standpoint to keep your processes updated and able to handle Big Data.

We’ll review the benefits of good asset management, go over best practices, while running you through the best model for managing the asset lifecycle. We’ll also touch on the SAP and Vesta products that can help you update EAM at your business.

Vesta and SAP to Highlight Pipeline Integrity at Saudi Aramco Corporate Maintenance Forum

Vesta and SAP to Highlight Pipeline Integrity at Saudi Aramco Corporate Maintenance Forum

Pipeline integrity is a crucial part of the Oil and Gas industry. The goal is to have error, spill, and incident free operations for the sake of the public, employees, environment, and customers. Successful management of pipeline integrity can best be achieved through integrating data from enterprise asset management (EAM) processes to back office operational information.

SAP and Vesta Partners have partnered to create a Pipeline Integrity solution that provides that data integration and uses it to optimize pipeline maintenance. Vesta will be presenting on this solution at the 14th annual Saudi Aramco Corporate Maintenance Forum in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia on April 2-4.

How Pipeline Integrity Works

The SAP Pipeline Integrity solution is based on SAP S/4HANA and comes with a suite of preconfigured EAM, LAM, and GIS applications. These preconfigurations are enabled by Vesta EAM Codex, which incorporates many years of EAM implementation experience to find the best possible setup for certain scenarios. In this case, that scenario is Pipeline Integrity.

The suite of SAP products will enable a clear view of schedule risk via an automated solution integration. This will have positive impacts on planning and scheduling of maintenance, as well as optimized use of resources.

Vesta SAP Pipeline Integrity

Pipeline Integrity also enables field operations by focusing on their roles and responsibilities. Employees in the field will see an intuitive user experience in SAP Work Manager or SAP Asset Manager that operates on any device with both online and offline capabilities.

Finally, Pipeline Integrity comes with a range of analytical tools to support the best decision-making. Analytics allows that integrated set of data across the business to become a resource in improving asset performance and maintenance. SAP Digital Twin functionality allows you to use data to build a digital version of the pipeline asset, capturing all relevant information and presenting in a single place.

Getting Started Quickly

Vesta and SAP have built a six-week program to assess and align recommendations for your pipeline project. In this, we will examine strategic objectives, current processes, current architecture, and your operating model. After that assessment, we will help you locate quick win opportunities, identify process opportunities, create a target architecture, choose implementation approaches, build a road map, and put together a business case.

The Saudi Aramco Corporate Maintenance Forum is not an open event, limited to the organization and its entities. However, this will be an opportunity for Pipeline Integrity to be put in front of customers and receive real customer feedback. You’ll be sure to see more from this solution in the Middle East region going forward.

Contact Vesta to find out how you can better manage your pipeline integrity, and for all other EAM needs.

SAP-Centric EAM and Supply Chain 2019 Preview

SAP-Centric EAM and Supply Chain 2019 Preview: Accelerating SAP S/4HANA and Building Your MRO Roadmap

SAP-Centric EAM and Supply Chain 2019 Preview: Accelerating SAP S/4HANA and Building Your MRO Roadmap

The premier gathering of SAP EAM customers and partners—SAP-Centric EAM—is coming to San Antonio, Texas on March 18-20. The event features what’s current and what’s coming in the SAP EAM space, including roadmaps and new innovations along with expert presentations and customer stories.

SAP-Centric EAM will be co-located with SAP-Centric Supply Chain, and all attendees have access to both conferences. Let’s examine some of the highlights on the extensive agendas.

Accelerating the Move to SAP S/4HANA

If you are thinking about moving to SAP S/4HANA, but the idea of a long implementation is intimidating, consider attending the workshop “SAP S/4HANA 101—Vesta’s EAM Codex” on Monday, March 18 at 1:00 pm.

In this session. Vesta Partners Director Dominic Brennan and CTO Martin Stenzig will break down EAM functionality in the latest release of SAP S/4HANA. This will include a demonstration of a fully configured SAP S/4HANA system.

Attendees to SAP S/4HANA 101—Vesta’s EAM Codex will come away with a deep knowledge of SAP S/4HANA capability and ideas around how they can harness SAP S/4HANA’s features and functionalities. They’ll also learn how they can accelerate their implementation with the help of SAP EAM expertise.

Vesta’s Stenzig will also be leading a series of peer-to-peer roundtable discussions on EAM Strategy by Industry. In this session, you can expect to find others within your industry who have faced the same sort of challenges in digitization, standards and regulations, new technologies, and more. Participate in this conversation on Wednesday, March 20 at 2:55 pm.

How SAP S/4HANA Changes in Supply Chain

When SAP created SAP S/4HANA, it sought to simplify its code and eliminate redundant functionalities. For Supply Chain, that means plenty of changes, including some functions that have been combined, some that have been eliminated, and others that have been replaced.

In the session “How to Decide Your Future Road Map in SAP S/4HANA for MRO” Vesta Global Business Development lead for Supply Chain and Procurement Denise Powell will break down the major Supply Chain changes in SAP S/4HANA from previous SAP ERP iterations.

Powell will be joined by Kohler Corporation Maintenance System Project Leader Tom Wery to discuss the challenges his organization faced in building an MRO roadmap in SAP S/4HANA. You can hear both Powell and Wery on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:55 am.

Planning for the Unplanned

Scheduled maintenance is common—most organizations have set up specific times to maintain their assets. However, it’s no secret that there are unplanned corrective actions on equipment that often go untracked.

Tracking this unplanned work can be time-consuming. In the session “Focus on Planning/Scheduling While Optimizing Unavoidable Unplanned Work—Keep It SimpleVesta SVP of Manufacturing and Heavy Industries Ben Mansi will discuss tools and techniques that can be used to create simple and effective strategies to capture those unplanned maintenance activities.

Mansi’s session will be on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:55 am.

Tracking Materials with SAP to Stay Compliant

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requires traceable, verifiable, and complete data for gas transmission pipeline components. NorthWestern Energy will demonstrate how it addressed these requirements in its presentation “Implementation of SAP GIS, SAP Linear Asset Management, and SAP Geo Framework for Material Traceability.”

This presentation will detail the implementation that led to benefits in identifying the locations of traceable materials, single data entry, and geospatial tracking of work. You can see it on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:55 am.

Visit Vesta on the SAP-Centric and EAM and Supply Chain Show Floor

In between all the great sessions, be sure to stop by the Vesta booth on the SAP-Centric EAM and Supply Chain Show Floor. We’ll have experiences experts on hand to answer your questions on anything related to SAP EAM, and demos of our latest offerings.

Analyzing SAP’s FKOM and the Idea of “Intelligent Enterprise”

Analyzing SAP’s FKOM and the Idea of “Intelligent Enterprise”

Returning from SAP Field Kick-off Meeting (FKOM) Barcelona I would like to share some insights:

  • Between January 15 and 17, SAP kicked off 2019 at their regional EMEA/MEE FKOM event. Similar events were performed in other regions.
  • While there were no major strategy changes announced, a couple of things got re-emphasized:
    • Growth area for SAP will be Cloud, while On-Premise is being expected as stable.
    • SAP sees major opportunities for their new CRM which is C/4HANA.
    • Also, SAP is further promoting the transition from ERP to S/4HANA.
  • SAP introduced a new slogan “Experience Matters” which must be seen in conjunction with their acquisition of Qualtrics (see The idea is to bring together business data from SAP with experience data from Qualtrics in the categories of Customer, Employee, Brand, and Product. This refers to the business’ ability adapting to change in the market, for example measured by the AQ (Adaptability Quotient).
  • All this enhances the paradigm of the “Intelligent Enterprise“, using data for driving outcomes in end-to-end mega-processes. This must necessary lead to an even better integration of the SAP products in the areas of Customer Experience (C/4HANA), Manufacturing & Supply Chain (IBP, ME, MII, PPM, AIN, ASPM,…), Digital Core (S/4HANA), People Engagement (SuccessFactors), and Network & Spend Management (Ariba, Concur). For more details on the solutions you may have a look into the SAP Solution Explorer ( or the published SAP Roadmaps ( Shaping your own journey into the new portfolio might start with the Transformation Navigator (, a tool you can use to map out your existing landscape and see SAP’s recommendations for go-to solutions.
  • Following the idea of an “Intelligent Enterprise”, SAP has revamped their EAM offering under the headline of “Intelligent Asset Management“. This comprises of two major parts:
    • S/4HANA Asset Management for the parts of EAM in the Digital Core. This mainly comes back to what most people know under the term PM (Plant Maintenance), but with a new Fiori and WebDynpro harmonized user experience, completely new analytics, and quite some enhancements and continuous improvement. Additionally, components for planning and scheduling (e.g. MRS), work clearance management (WCM), or environment, health, and safety (EHS) reside here.
    • SAP Cloud Platform based applications that complement the Digital Core for flexibly realizing on innovation challenges. Asset Intelligence Network (AIN) for exchanging asset master and condition data between manufacturer, service provider, and operator. Asset Strategy and Performance Management (ASPM) for determining or improving on maintenance strategies using a variety of methodologies (like Asset Criticality Analysis, RCM, FMEA, Root-Cause Analysis). Predictive Maintenance and Service (PdMS) for monitoring asset health data and initiate maintenance events when needed. Predictive Engineering Insights (PEI) for modeling physical structures and simulate stresses and strains.
    • Asset Central acts as the layer for common functionality of the EAM cloud applications as well as the information broker between S/4HANA and Cloud Platform. In this regard, it can also be seen as SAP’s new asset cloud registry for both master data and real-world information.
  • In essence, Intelligent Asset Management follows the idea on an Intelligent Enterprise by establishing data-driven asset management processes that are based on the Digital Twin, a virtual representation of the physical asset with all relevant up-to-date information, accessible in the cloud.
  • In its main pieces, the concept also works in combination with SAP ERP, hence there is no reason to postpone innovation, just because an S/4HANA transition is yet to come. Intelligent Asset Management allows for building the big picture, then consuming the pieces step-by-step.
