Learn EAM for SAP S/4HANA at ASUG Midwest Central Chapter Meeting
Vesta Partners is sponsoring the ASUG Midwest Central Chapter Event in Lincoln, Neb. on July 12, and will be part of an agenda packed with tips and use cases for SAP EAM customers. Vesta will be presenting on some of the latest developments in SAP S/4HANA.
S/4HANA made major improvements in its September 2017 release—referred to in shorthand as 1709—that now make it a viable option for Enterprise Asset Management (EAM). Some of the functionality should look familiar to those who are accustomed to EAM in previous SAP iterations—such as SAP ECC. Other features are brand new and offer ways to potentially do things more efficiently.
A Visual S/4HANA Experience
At the ASUG Midwest Central Chapter Meeting, Matthew Bowman, Director of Global Business Development for Energy and Utilities for Vesta, will not just tell attendees how S/4HANA 1709 works for EAM, but show it with a live S/4HANA system demonstration.
Bowman will dive into common work management and asset management scenarios to show how SAP EAM tools in S/4HANA can improve your organization’s asset management capabilities. Focus areas will include asset management with master data, including the use of Linear Asset Management (LAM), Geographical Enablement Framework (GEF), and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) integration. Additionally, he will cover work management processing as well as the Fiori user interface and enterprise search functionality.
Customers Examples in EAM
Vesta will be joined by several SAP customers in the utilities space in Lincoln, who will be covering real-world examples in EAM areas such as SAP Work Manager, creating the foundation for advanced EAM, and GIS integration with SAP data.
Head here for the complete agenda, and to register for the ASUG Midwest Central Chapter Meeting. The event is free to ASUG members, and includes breakfast, lunch, and an evening opportunity to network with peers.

Mark Scott to present at the 2016 ASUG Annual Conference
Join Mark Scott, Vesta Partners Principal Education Manager at this year’s ASUG Conference taking place at the Orange County Convention Center, for an in depth look at how the Hershey Company significantly improved their scheduling by upgrading their MRS solution. Mark Scott will be co-presenting with Linda Dietzal, Business Transformation Manager, Manufacturing & EAM at The Hershey Company on Wednesday, May 18th, 2016.
Here’s a sneak peek of their presentation:
Hershey started using MRS 610 in 2009 and decided to upgrade to MRS 900 in 2015. Hershey wanted to take advantage of their five+ years of MRS experience when making new design decisions and take advantage of significant new functionality. As this was one of the largest version jumps for SAP, it brought its own set of challenges. In this presentation you will learn about the challenges Hershey faced, the MRS functionality they have taken advantage of to improve scheduling and gain user adoption using MRS 900.
Keys elements of the project included conducting detailed blueprint sessions, which became the foundation for all other configuration, data, and user training activities that followed. Important considerations were to move away from using 1:1 relationships to Split Assignments and to begin using Operation User Statuses as part of the new work process. Scheduling thought leaders in each plant provided input on an improved work process and how MRS would support it, including significant changes to transactional data required for the upgrade.
Move from a version of MRS that is getting more difficult to get support to a version that will be supported for years to come
Consistent and standard process defined against which to measure scheduling work performance
Maintenance scheduling process has become more efficient, requiring less effort than before

Mark Scott, the Education Manager at Vesta, to speak at the 2015 ASUG Annual Conference in Orlando FL
Mark Scott, the Education Manager at Vesta, will be speaking on the topic of “The Magic of Configurable Task Lists” at the 2015 ASUG Annual Conference, taking place in Orlando FL., on May 5-7. During the session Mark will review configurable task lists, what they are, how they can be used, and how to set them up.
Here’s a sneak peek summary:
“Task lists are powerful tools that are often underestimated and underutilized. When using task lists you often run into situations where you want to include or exclude operations based on certain conditions (not based on measuring points). In these situations many usually create multiple variations of one task list. An alternative approach is to use configurable task lists. This permits you to create a “super task list” where individual operations are selected based on a defined criteria. Rather than creating a set of slightly different task lists, you create one master and make it configurable.”

Denise Powell, a Global Business Development Manager at Vesta, to speak at the 2015 ASUG Annual Conference in Orlando FL.
Denise Powell, a Global Business Development Manager at Vesta, will be speaking on the topic of “Effective Maintenance Planning and Impacts to the MRO Procurement Process” at the 2015 ASUG Annual Conference, taking place in Orlando FL., on May 5-7. During this session Denise will discuss the impact of poor maintenance planning to the supply chain process as well as how the MRO storeroom can affect the life cycle cost of an asset.
Here’s a sneak peek summary:
“A poorly operated maintenance or MRO storeroom can contribute up to 25% of the unplanned downtime in a manufacturing facility.
The entire organization will contribute to the cost of the product and having the product available. The largest impact on performance, which is represented by life cycle cost and customer service levels, is reliable capacity. Unreliable assets drive reactive and corrective decisions which are wasteful and costly.
The MRO storeroom has two key roles: supplying capacity and assuring capacity. This is accomplished by achieving the storeroom’s primary purpose which is to have the correct part, in the correct quantity, at the correct time, at the correct place, and at the correct price to minimize downtime. If this is accomplished the MRO storeroom directly contributes to lowering the life cycle cost of an asset and the cost of goods sold. A key to this success is also ensuring maintenance best practices are followed. Poor planning of resources and MRO parts can affect the entire supply chain and directly impact cost and downtime.”

Challenges within the MRO Process
We will be discussing 4 major points in refining the PM à MRO process
Ben Mansi Presenting “Enterprise Asset Management –11 Plants in 12 Weeks”, at the 2015 ASUG Annual Conference
NorthWestern, the largest electric utility in Montana, announced in September 2013 that they agreed to buy 11 hydroelectric dams from PPL Montana. After completing the purchase, NorthWestern was faced with a strict budget and timeframe to implement the new SAP Plant Maintenance software. They had only 12 weeks to complete this task before presenting the software to the Public Service Commission for approval. This software needed to illustrate the long-term cost that would be passed on to NorthWestern’s Montana ratepayers and the cost to maintain the dams.
Vesta Partners, an SAP Services and a Select Consulting Partner focused on delivering measurable results in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), stepped in to help NorthWestern Energy in completing this task. With the combination of knowledgeable and hardworking team members from both, Vesta Partners and NorthWestern Energy, the accelerated implementation was completed with great success. After a short delay from the Public Service Commission, the implementation was approved and launched a go-live.
NorthWestern Energy and Vesta Partners will be presenting this success story in much more detail at this year’s Sapphire Now and ASUG Annual Conference. This presentation will go over how this A team worked together to pull off this accelerated SAP PM implementation.
