Learn About the latest SAP EAM Innovations at SAP for Utilities in San Diego
North America’s largest industry conference—SAP for Utilities—takes place on October 21-23 in San Diego, Calif. If the location isn’t enough to pique your interest, the conference will also feature hundreds of customer, partner, and SAP attendees that are trying to solve the same challenges you face every day in in the utilities industry.
There will be more than 200 SAP customer companies in attendance, as well as service and solution providers. Rizing will be there sharing our own experience and knowledge as part of a wide-ranging agenda that covers SAP S/4HANA, Internet of Things, Data Governance, and more.
In the utilities industry, customers are expecting a modern experience, and technology isthe base for that. SAP for Utilities can connect customers to those that will help solve the challenge of creating that experience in an efficient way that provides a great return on investment.
As Gold sponsor, you can find us in the Rizing booth on the show floor. We will have speakers in two sessions, the first of which comes as an extended pre–conference session that covers the latest SAP asset management technologies. We’ll also have one our customers on hand—Cleco—to discuss how they built an integrated estimated and design system with SAP EAM solutions.

As part of that discussion, we will look at what the new capabilities in the SAP Intelligent Asset Management Suite and SAP S/4HANA are providing and what value they bring to the organization. An Integrated Estimation and Design Solution at CLECO
When: Tuesday, October 22 from 1:10pm to 1:50pm.
Who:Mark Prevost, VP of Asset Management, CLECO and Crawford Owens, SVP of Global Business Development, Rizing LLC
Abstract:CLECO recently completed a large implementation of SAP EAM functionality using SAP S/4HANA as part of its START program. Central to the electric distribution design and estimation functions now in use are a comprehensive use of SAP-compatible units, coupled with ESRI’s ArcFM Designer as the graphical design tool. This presentation will inform the audience of the possibilities of an integrated toolset, as well as some of the unique technical challenges the project team overcame. Topics included in the presentation include replication and synchronization of data across SAP and ArcFM Designer, technical integration design, including use of web services, and management of the entire estimation and design process in both tools.
Key Business Benefits:
Management of data replication processes between systems ensures timely data is accurate.
This allows for multiple intersections between the systems at various points.
These efforts prevent bad data from entering the system by providing immediate feedback.
The growing interest in SAP Leonardo and its applications to the energy sector was evident among the customers we spoke with. Our own Rob Ericcson presented on the topic of machine learning in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and how integrating with SAP helps bring a full picture of asset health, and provides the data to build powerful machine learning algorithms to life.
EAM Mobilty—Online and Offline
On the usability front, SAP oil and gas and utilities customers want consistent interfaces that are accessible anywhere—including offline. Ericsson also presented on that topic—showing how Vesta’s Hydrogen solution helps customers build that seamless experience, and lets field workers access the data they need when there is no wireless connection available.
“Some customers are looking to take the next step in mobility and usability, making it better, cheaper, and faster,” says Ericcson. “Others are just trying to get their first mobility projects off the ground,”
Geo-Enabled Linear Asset Management
You can always locate our physical assets on maps, but those assets aren’t always easy to access even when you know the location. By geo-enabling an asset, companies can access more precise locations through useful visualizations, while also integrating important asset information.
“With geo enablement, linear asset management, and mobility, you can create a nice solution where 1+1+1=5,” says Ericcson.
Plenty of customers are interested in solving that equation, as Vesta’s Mike Golds presented to a packed crowd on how linear asset management data can integrate with geographical data.
A Modernized Energy Sector
It’s clear that oil and gas and utilities companies are moving forward with technologies such as mobility, machine learning and geo-enablement. SAP partners like Vesta are here to help organziations achieve those goals, using asset data to become more efficient.

This year Vesta’s very own Matt Bowman will be presenting alongside Loudoun Water’s Craig Lees in their track session “Loudoun Water Mobilizes SAP’s GEO.e for Improved Field Operations” taking place Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 at 2:10 PM. Here is a sneak peek of what their presentation will cover:
Since implementing SAP’s mapping technology, GEO.e, Loudoun Water has worked to deliver the benefits of an integrated geospatial solution to its 150+ operations staff when they are working in the field. The challenge was to find an easy way for these workers to manage their daily workload while eliminating an inefficient and labor-intensive paper-based process. To address this challenge, Loudoun Water selected, configured and deployed a water-industry focused GIS-enabled mobile solution and suite of apps to automate specific business functions including hydrant flushing, meter management, construction inspection and notification creation. By combining the power of GIS and GPS, coupled with integration to the SAP core system and delivered to a mobile device, we have empowered field users to manage their assigned work on a map and made it simple to create orders and notifications by interacting with a mobile GIS map. This presentation will provide an overview of the project drivers, mobile solution implementation, SAP integration, benefits and future plans.
