This year Vesta’s very own Matt Bowman will be presenting alongside Loudoun Water’s Craig Lees in their track session “Loudoun Water Mobilizes SAP’s GEO.e for Improved Field Operations” taking place Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 at 2:10 PM. Here is a sneak peek of what their presentation will cover:
Since implementing SAP’s mapping technology, GEO.e, Loudoun Water has worked to deliver the benefits of an integrated geospatial solution to its 150+ operations staff when they are working in the field. The challenge was to find an easy way for these workers to manage their daily workload while eliminating an inefficient and labor-intensive paper-based process. To address this challenge, Loudoun Water selected, configured and deployed a water-industry focused GIS-enabled mobile solution and suite of apps to automate specific business functions including hydrant flushing, meter management, construction inspection and notification creation. By combining the power of GIS and GPS, coupled with integration to the SAP core system and delivered to a mobile device, we have empowered field users to manage their assigned work on a map and made it simple to create orders and notifications by interacting with a mobile GIS map. This presentation will provide an overview of the project drivers, mobile solution implementation, SAP integration, benefits and future plans.

Mark Scott to present at the 2016 ASUG Annual Conference
Join Mark Scott, Vesta Partners Principal Education Manager at this year’s ASUG Conference taking place at the Orange County Convention Center, for an in depth look at how the Hershey Company significantly improved their scheduling by upgrading their MRS solution. Mark Scott will be co-presenting with Linda Dietzal, Business Transformation Manager, Manufacturing & EAM at The Hershey Company on Wednesday, May 18th, 2016.
Here’s a sneak peek of their presentation:
Hershey started using MRS 610 in 2009 and decided to upgrade to MRS 900 in 2015. Hershey wanted to take advantage of their five+ years of MRS experience when making new design decisions and take advantage of significant new functionality. As this was one of the largest version jumps for SAP, it brought its own set of challenges. In this presentation you will learn about the challenges Hershey faced, the MRS functionality they have taken advantage of to improve scheduling and gain user adoption using MRS 900.
Keys elements of the project included conducting detailed blueprint sessions, which became the foundation for all other configuration, data, and user training activities that followed. Important considerations were to move away from using 1:1 relationships to Split Assignments and to begin using Operation User Statuses as part of the new work process. Scheduling thought leaders in each plant provided input on an improved work process and how MRS would support it, including significant changes to transactional data required for the upgrade.
Move from a version of MRS that is getting more difficult to get support to a version that will be supported for years to come
Consistent and standard process defined against which to measure scheduling work performance
Maintenance scheduling process has become more efficient, requiring less effort than before
Add Mark Scott’s presentation to your ASUG agenda, session ID A4154. For more information about Sapphire & ASUG 2016, clickhere.
Vesta to Present at the International SAP Conference for Oil & Gas, Netherlands
Vesta Partners will be presenting during the International SAP Conference for Oil & Gas taking place in the Hague, Netherlands April 12th – 14th. Vesta’s Rob Ericsson will be co-presenting with Mark Pyattfrom SAP. Their presentation titled, “What Would Archie Do? Marathon Oil’s Strategy for Mobility User Adoption” will cover the Marathon Oil Corporation implemented SAP-PM mid 2013 in the North American Production Organization (NAPO), with the view of implementing a tool that was easily adaptable, integrated and flexible. During the first year, we built the structure, trained field personnel and management, while also looking for additional functionality that would allow us to take SAP-PM to the techs in the field vs. bringing the techs from the field. One of our greatest challenges to full implementation was the distance operators, and maintenance and reliability techs, had to travel on a daily basis to complete their work, gather their paper work, and report issues/repairs; therefore, we focused on Work Manger, as a bridge between distance and reliability. Unfortunately, this the transition wasn’t easy, as most of our Maintenance Techs and Operators are not tech savvy, so we attacked the challenge in two ways:
What would Archie Do?: Archie is one of most seasoned field vets, whom all the field techs respect and follow; however, he is the least tech savvy. I focused on making the system easy enough for him to use, with the understanding “as Archie goes, so do the Maintenance Techs.” We constantly asked ourselves, “Can Archie do this”, if not, “let’s make it easier.” Once we were done, and Archie put his hands on it, understood it and started using it, the rest of the Maintenance Techs followed.
Grade ourselves: We developed more rigorous KPI’s, that put more real time information in the Reliability Engineers hands to make better reliability decisions, which were fed to Management as costs savings. Once Management started seeing better decisions being made from data vs. “gut feel”, they started pushing for more SAP and Work Manager functionality; therefore, we are now integrating SAP-LAM, GEO.e and GIS for better system utilization.
